The MSU Museum is an innovative and experimental collaboratory that exists to catalyze creativity and serves the MSU community by facilitating and creating experiences at the nexus of the arts, sciences, cultures, and technologies. The MSU Museum seeks to hire student employees to work as part of a specialized team for a project focused on making the Museum more accessible for visitors with visual impairments. You don’t need to have skills in all the project areas to apply – we will be looking for applicants to create a multi-disciplinary team.
What you will do: The project includes assessing museum building spaces to design for technology solutions, evaluation and assessment, museum gallery design, user design, accessibility work, and project management. You will do work that aligns with your skills and project needs but also have opportunities for learning new skills. Student team members will receive specialized training in creating audio description for the visually impaired and accessing the built environment for technology solutions.
What are the work hours: Up to 10 hours per week for 40 weeks – arranged with supervisor. Some hybrid work possible.
Potential benefits: This is an excellent skill-building opportunity. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Each student will receive training and get real-world experience that can transfer to future work. You will have opportunities to be creative and help develop solutions that will make the MSU Museum more accessible for visitors with disabilities.
Who should apply: Students with experience in technology development (RFID, beacons, app development, and other tech), user experience, project management, disability education and accessibility services, education, evaluation and assessment, architecture, museum studies, and/or other relevant majors should apply. If this opportunity sounds interesting, please apply so we can learn more about you.
